Ideal Meal:
As we’ve mentioned, there has never been a better time to eat a healthy diet and take care of your body than during pregnancy. Some of the benefits are increased energy, less unnecessary weight gain, keeping healthy blood pressure and of course giving your darling baby the healthy nutrients he deserves.
There are some key nutrients that are especially important during pregnancy. Here is a little example of a simple meal plan to keep you on track.
Breakfast:
1 whole egg, 2 egg whites
½ cup of steel cut oats OR 1 slice of multigrain bread
1 cup of organic milk OR fortified orange juice
Snack:
1 handful of almonds
1 Orange or 1 cup of Strawberries
Lunch:
Whole Sandwich with:
½ chicken breast
multigrain bread
Swiss cheese
¼-1/2 an avocado
Tomato
Or
½ Sandwich with a salad (lots of fresh veggies!)
Snack:
2 oz of cheese
Lentil soup (try the “Nile Spice” avoid canned soups)
Dinner:
4oz of lean protein
Spinach salad with walnuts, strawberries and poppy dressing (I like Brianna’s)
½ sweet potato with a pat of butter
Bedtime snack:
Nancy’s Organic low-fat yogurt with berries
or
1 glass of milk
Remember to keep it organic!!
Try to eat 6 small meals a day to keep blood sugar stable. Suffering from morning sickness? Don’t worry! Nature has a way of taking care of you and your baby, so eat what you can when you can and enjoy this special time.
