Pregnancy Meal Plan - Third Trimester

May 29, 2008

ARE YOU IN YOUR THIRD TRIMESTER AND LOOKING FOR NUTRITION INFORMATION AND A MEAL PLAN THAT WILL IMPROVE YOUR HEALTH AND THE HEATH OF YOUR GROWING BABY?  Read more here…

You are on the home stretch!  By now your baby is pretty much fully developed and the next few months are spent growing, maturing and getting ready to enter the world.

During your Third Trimester, the essential nutrients you will want to increase in your diet are:
Vitamin K, and DHA/EPA.

Vitamin K is essential for healthy tooth development and for blood clotting.  After birth, a Vitamin K shot is administered as standard procedure to help with blood clotting.

DHA and EPA are essential fatty acids that help with healthy eye and brain development.  Most pre-natal supplements these days include them right in the vitamin, however adding foods containing DHA and EPA will only help your growing baby.  Although supplements are good, natural food sources are the best way to get nutrients.

Breakfast:

*  2 eggs and 1 egg white with spinach
*  1 cup of low fat milk
*  1 slice of multigrain toast.  Try to find a bread with sunflower seeds in it.*

Snack:

*  Trail mix of almonds, sunflower seeds, and a bit of chocolate.  If you can throw in a little dried fruit, apricots, or mango that would be great!

Lunch:

*  Spinach Salad
*
  ½ Chicken Breast
*  1 Cup of Brown Rice (cooked)

Snack:

*  ½ - 3/4 Cup of Plain Low Fat Yogurt
*  Berries (i.e. Organic Strawberries, Blueberries, Raspberries)
*  ½ Cup of Kashi Go Lean Crunch Cereal

Dinner:

*  Steamed Broccoli with a pat of Butter and/or Parmesan Cheese
*  4 – 5 Oz of Protein of Your Choice (NOTE:  Try to eat at least 8 oz of Low Mercury Fish per Week i.e. Salmon (wild from Alaska), Herring, Sardines etc.)
*  Small Potato

Snack:

*  1 Piece of Organic Fruit (i.e. Banana, Peach, Apple etc.)

Just relish in these last few months/weeks pre-baby.  I know you are anxious to meet your little one, but they are with you every step of the way.  Every time you eat a good healthy meal, take a long walk, enjoy a calming yoga class, or read a book in preparation for their arrival you are strengthening your “beginning” together for the both of you.
