V.O.C’s IN THE HOME AND YOUR HEALTH:
A highly toxic chemical found most notably in nail polish, nail polish remover, household products (cleaning and disinfecting), paints (varnishes), fuels and pesticides (to name a few) are V.O.C’s (Volatile Organic Compounds). The EPA states that V.O.C’s are: “suspected of causing, or are known to cause cancer in humans.”

“Fragrance” is a culprit in our home-care (and cosmetic) products called. But what exactly is “fragrance”?
Essentially “fragrance” can be any chemical or additive that the product manufacturer would like. By law companies are supposed to list all ingredients on their product, but because that would be disclosing trade secrets “fragrance” is a loophole that manufacturers can use to put almost any ingredient in their formula without disclosing it. Surprisingly, one of the largest contributors to indoor air pollution are scented candles, another source of “fragrance”.
There are a few issues here. One, a lot of candles are made with a lead wick core. So when you burn them you are putting that lead directly into the air in the form of smoke and carbon…yikes!
Also, most candles are made with Paraffin, which is Petroleum based and a byproduct of gasoline, so when they are burned they release carcinogenic toxins into the air. Read more
