We all remember the toy scare of 2007. Finding out that there were dangerous chemicals such as:
* LEAD
* CADMIUM
* CHLORINE
* ARSENIC
* BROMINE
* MERCURY
(to name a few)
present in the innocent playthings we voluntarily give to our children was both outrageous and frightening.
But what has changed since then and how can we protect our children from toxic toys?
The first thing we can do as parents is educate ourselves on how to choose safe and healthy toys.

Before age 1, babies don’t really play with toys as much as they explore by putting everything in their mouth. Most toys are age appropriate for 6 months +, which is about the time they begin teething. So it is especially important to look for toys that are FREE of Phthalates, BPA’s , PVC and unsafe levels of metals such as lead, mercury, arsenic etc.. Be aware that MOST gel Teethers are traditionally made of PVC, and are thus very toxic. Here are some of my favorites:
